GOVERNING BODY AND PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION
South Africa’s Schools Act recommends that stakeholders in education should be involved in the organisation of schools, and parents and members of local communities are often in the best position to know what a school really needs and what its problems are.
At Disa Park Pre-Primary, we believe that parents can play a vital role in their child’s education by being involved. We realise that parents are pushed for time due to work and other commitments, but every small contribution or act of involvement is appreciated and will contribute to providing a better learning facility for our children. Being involved can also be fun as you get to meet other parents, and informative as you get to stay in touch with what is happening at the school.
Our Governing Body team consists of the principal and elected parents and members of staff, and governs the management of our school. The Governing Body functions as the “head” of our school, being responsible for all policies, planning, finance, administering the school’s property, buildings and grounds, and making recommendations regarding staff appointments.
Our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) functions as the ‘hands’ of our school, and consists of parents who have volunteered to get involved in our school. Some are involved more actively than others, as commitments allow, and any offers of help are appreciated by the school. In our parents’ experience this is a great way to get to meet and know other parents and staff, while working together for our children.
Our PTA portfolios are as follows
- Finance
- Fund raising
- Building repairs and maintenence
- Garden
- PR
- Catering
- Puzzles and games maintenance

We send out an an email newsletter every Wednesday to keep parents up to date with happenings at the school.

Each child has a book which is sent home every Friday with notes about the theme for the next week, the songs that the children are learning and requests for anything that needs to be brought to school the following week.

Our PR portfolio runs an informal private Facebook group for the school which is by invitation only to parents. Here we post reminders and pics of school events. Note this group is not open to members of the public.
